It's a head rest that is used as a support from underneath. It's only temporary, because she must be watched at all times when using it. She has the ability to press her nose and mouth into the pad and she doesn't necessarily have the strength to lift her head to maintain her airway. We're going to be trying out another system. Stay tuned.
Seamus got a new haircut. Handsome little guy.
On Mother's Day, I did some gardening with the kids. They were both very helpful.

Last night, Seamus helped Jim cut the grass for the first time. His face was very serious the whole time, but he enjoyed himself very much. I could see him talking to Jim the whole time (not that Jim heard anything he said).

Does Eve's chair tilt backwards? We have the same issue with our elderly. Sometimes when the back tilts back it will propel the head back.
I'm sure you have already thought of this.
Is there an OT or PT you can call for advice.
I so admire you and your family.

Yes, her chair tilts. But, she has trouble managing her saliva. She gags if we tilt her chair back so that her head rests against the back of her headrest. We're trying to find a solution that keeps her head up a little, but allows her to hang it a little so the saliva can drain out.
She has both OT and PT at school and the wheelchair guy is fantastic as problem solving.
Thanks so much, Joan!
